(A section is given to the collections from each of the museums. The Leningrad collection is small
and is of a ceremonial nature. This collection is also particularly important for the study of Hawaiian
material culture. The Berne collection is larger and includes a predominance of objects of everyday life.
The Florence collection is the largest of the three but the associated documentation about provenance
is not as clear as the former collections. In the main the artifacts of these collections come from Cook's
third voyage and were collected from the Hawaiian Islands, Tonga Islands, Island of Tahati, New Zealand Maori,
North American Tlingit, and Nootka Sound)
(Keywords: Ethnology, artefacts, tribal art, Hawaii, Tonga, Society Islands, Nootka Sound,
Northwest Coast, New Zealand, Maori, Tuamotu, Caledonia).
